Although young for his kind, Ax holds great pride in his race. To some, he can come off as arrogant. He can also come off as naïve as well, but that is mostly due to the cultural differences from where Ax is from. Initially, he could not grasp the concept of human culture, growing easily frustrated with it as he tried to assimilate into their society while stranded on Earth. However, over time the alien grew to appreciate human civilization and even sided with them over his own Andalite kind. It could possibly be due to how long he’d spent among them, but Ax gradually became more and more like a human himself, and even appreciated his human form over his alien one. Although he never speaks of it to anyone, there were times he considered becoming a human nothlit, what becomes of a morpher when they are in a morph for longer than two hours and are unable to revert back to their original form. While Ax still takes pride in his alien heritage, he also prides in the fact that he’s the most knowledgeable Andalite on human culture.

As an Andalite Ax can be fairly serious, stern. But in human form, a lot of that seems to change. Ax becomes engrossed in his surroundings, particularly with his sense of speech, which he’s deprived of from his lack of having a mouth as an Andalite. He is partial to shoveling food into his mouth, both edible and non-edible, and is very enthused about trying a wide variety of new tastes and words. He often repeats certain words he finds fun to say (for instance, he likes the way the letter Z “tingles” on his tongue). His facial expressions change drastically, as he becomes very enthused by his newfound human senses that he takes in every moment of it.

Among his favorite sins, Ax loves cinnamon buns, chocolate, cigarette butts, popcorn, coffee and a variety of junk food. He is an addict of television and the radio, and is particularly fond of commercials, which he refers to as “These Messages”. To many he is an eccentric, but in truth Ax is just in love with the human way of life.

Before Manhattan

In his childhood, Aximili lived the average life as a cadet. Or at least as average as you can get when you’re an alien, following in the footsteps of your older brother who’s considered a legend on your home world. Needless to say, Aximili had a lot on his shoulders while growing up, constantly referred to as the “younger brother of Elfangor”.

It wasn’t until later in his youth, when Aximili crash-landed on Earth after being shot down by an enemy ship, that his life changed in the blink of an eye. After sending several distress calls to his allies through means of telepathy, the alien waited in a dome ship, miles in the deep sea, almost losing hope entirely that he would ever be rescued. Days later he was saved, though not by what he would consider allies—but instead a group of humans. Not only that, but humans with the same ability to morph as he. This surprised Aximili, as where he was from to share their Andalite technology with another race was considered a grave violation of their codes. Even more so when Aximili discovered that it was his brother who had shared this technology with the human children.

A stranger in a strange land, the kids who called themselves the Animorphs were Aximili’s sole allies on the planet. Their fight was fruitless, he felt. What were five humans compared to an entire alien army that were slowly but surely taking over the entire Earth population? In a matter of years, it didn’t matter if the Andalites came to the human’s aid or not—Earth was pretty much forfeit. Thus Aximili was left behind; abandoned by his own people. Still, he befriended the human friends he had, though getting beyond that barrier of trust had taken some time. It was then that one of them, Marco, had also given him the nickname “Ax”.

Stranded on a planet and left with no hope for survival or allies other than his human companions, Ax had no other choice than to accept his fate and continue fighting what at first appeared to be a useless struggle. In fact, at several points in their war, Ax had plenty of opportunities to create an escape, leave to his own kind and abandon his human friends. But he didn’t. He stayed by their side, aiding them in their war, even when there was little chance for victory.

Truth be told, Ax had grown attached to his human friends—one of them he discovered also the son of his late brother, Elfangor, making Tobias his nephew. Both of them had already developed a strong bond, accepting each other as shorms, an Andalite term for someone you really, really trust. Ax had also much respect for another human, Jake, for his leadership qualities despite his youth. When forced to go into hiding with Ax later during the war, Marco had also bonded with Aximili by means of human technology and soap operas. Cassie, as well, had shown Ax compassion he rarely saw in times of war (and often a cause of concern), in contrast to the bloodthirsty nature of Rachel, yet another Animorph.

Aximili is the child of Noorlin-Sirinial-Cooraf and Forlay-Esgarrouth-Maheen. Though he does not talk much about his relationship with his parents, it is hinted at times that he is estranged from them as a child, as they had taken favor upon their more well respected older son. At one point Aximili’s father even demands his youngest son to take vengeance upon Elfangor’s murderer, even if it meant Aximili’s death. While Ax does not talk much of his family, the disregard of his youngest son’s life speaks volumes of how Ax’s father values his son’s life. This may be daunting to some, but for Aximili he has learned to accept this.

It took awhile to get a better understanding, but Ax started to see what made humans so special, and what might give them the hope to actually win this war. Fighting alongside them helped, as well as assimilating himself into their society, which was inevitable since Aximili had nowhere else to go.

After years of many battles fought, suffering several wins and losses, their endeavors came up on top: The humans had won over the alien invasion, with Ax’s aid as well as the human morphers called the Animorphs. They had not only saved the planet, but many others that were future target of their enemy’s. Also, after being in the shadow of his famous older brother for so long, Aximili had also gained a higher rank as well, earning himself the title of Prince Aximili-Esgarrouth-Isthill. On his home world he became known as much a legend as his brother, Elfangor-Sirinial-Shamtul, who if not for him giving the Animorphs their abilities, the human world would have been lost. But it was also with Aximili’s help that they survived, and for that he was also revered.

The war was over, and the Animorphs had split ways, some growing further apart from each other. With Ax’s newfound rank, he became a commander of a cruiser vessel called the Intrepid. As a leader, Aximili had developed a human sort of mentality, treating his inferiors with just as much respect as he would toward anyone of a higher rank.

Although he had not seen his human friends in so long, things were going well for Aximili. He spent much of his time out there managing the aftermath of the war and the space pirating. However, during one of Ax’s missions, he found his crew encountering a being known as The One, leaving behind only Menderash, the sole survivor of the event. The last thing heard from him was Aximili calling out for his former leader, Jake.

It was believed that The One had assimilated Ax, forcing the alien to become part of the borg-like entity. Word had gone around of Ax’s disappearance, whether if he was dead or alive, it was not known. Unbeknownst to any of his friends and allies, unfortunately, there was no way of telling what truly became of Aximili. It would be a new beginning for the Animorphs, but for Ax, his journey has led him elsewhere—to a city both unknown and familiar, it seems.

In Manhattan

Unlike many, Aximili arrived in Manhattan in a quiet manner. He was not injured in any way, and did not appear to ask for any help. He simply calmly requested for a brief explanation, concerned that perhaps this had been the doing of another alien race. Indeed, to his suspicions it very well could be. Until then, Aximili has taken upon himself to do a little research.

For the most part he wanders the city in human form, promptly morphing to Andalite in order to evade the parasite crabs whenever they make themselves known.

Relationships

Tobias - Ax is not only Tobias' uncle, but they're also shorms; the word itself means "tail-blade" in the Andalite terminology, but it more or less means "best friend". The meaning of the term has a lot to do with trust, in that Tobias and Ax trust each other as close friends. When they had discovered that they were related, this only strengthened their bond. Ax is very relieved to have found himself in familiar company.

Uchiha Sasuke - When Ax mentions that he might be able to build another ship in order to get off the island, Sasuke's interests were immediately piqued. The two have come to an agreement to share information with one another, should the time arise, and will most likely meet up somewhere down the line.

Egon Spengler - After stumbling upon a field where Egon had been experimenting on crab extermination, Ax happened to have accidentally gotten in the way, and nearly cost the Andalite his life.

Ray Stantz - Saved his life when Ax was being preyed upon by a bunch of parasite crabs. To this, Ax feels he owes a bit of a debt, and is most certainly fascinated by the weapons in which Ray had used to exterminate the crabs with.

Tasslehoff Burrfoot - A little disconcerted that the little kender is going off to Central Park on his lonesome, Ax decided to tag along. For the most part, the two seem to get along fine.
